in the research group “Visual Data Analysis in Science and Engineering”. The position is offered from March 1, 2017 and will be a fixed-term contract for 2 years with the option to be extended.

Job description

We are recruiting an exceptionally qualified researcher in the area of analysis and visualization of spatiotemporal data . The researcher is expected to develop new techniques for data analysis and visualization within the third-party project "High Definition Clouds and Precipitation for Climate Prediction – HD(CP)2 " (funded by BMBF, http://hdcp2.eu) jointly with climate researchers, meteorologists, mathematicians and computer scientists. The on- and offline diagnostics include the identification and tracking of time-dependent, deterministic, and stochastic objects, as well as the analysis of turbulence properties and probability densities. A specific focus will be on visual analysis of ensembles of functional data.

Requirements

You have a PhD in computer science, applied mathematics, physics, or meteorology, and you have practical experience in the analysis and visualization of spatiotemporal data. You like to design software and to develop algorithms. You have very good knowledge in programming (C ++) and are interested in in-situ data analysis on high-performance computers. Experience in programming Fortran and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Matlab) is a plus.

You are expected to be highly motivated, self-reliant and to be able to closely collaborate with researchers in the application areas. Good command of written and spoken English is essential.
